Close friends Joan and Irene, who once owned a cooking class business together, founded Effie’s Homemade oatcakes in honor of Joan’s mother Effie. The company still uses Effie’s classic recipe made with delicious, wholesome ingredients. This company prides itself on tradition, and also community values. Effies’ focuses on funding hunger relief programs including The Greater Boston Food Bank and Food For Free, and supports entrepreneurs in the food and sustainability space, including mentorship and programming at Boston University’s Culinary Arts Program.
